Tromsø, Norway 69° North – Hamperokken 57 km – Tromsdalstinden 32 km – Bønntuva 15 km – Sea to Summit Blåmann Vertical Km
“We cannot think of a better place than the mountains of Tromsø for a skyrace: a place to run between the sky and the earth and to feel freedom. You will run technical ridges with views of the fjords, and cross grass valleys in true wilderness, while still close to the iconic and beautiful city Tromsø. The course joins the 2 higher summits of the area, Tromsdalstind and Hamperokken, in pure single track and off-trail style “
Tromsø Skyrace was started in 2014 by Kilian Jornet and Emelie Forsberg. After spending time in the Tromsø area, the two of them wanted to create a race that followed the soul of sky running. Participants must have a combination of endurance, speed and mountaineering skills and knowledge to complete the course linking technical summits.
Hamperokken Skyrace (57 km), Official Race of the Migu Run Skyrunner® World Series, will be held on Saturday, August 3rd. The route has long and sustained sections of scrambling terrain on the Hamperokken ridge, off trail sections on loose rocky parts in Tromsdalstind and off trail forest sections on the lower parts and snow fields on the summits. The event is only suitable for highly experienced competitors, who are familiar with navigating technical mountain terrain.
Tromsdalstind Skyrace (32 km) will also take place on Saturday, August 3rd 2019. The race follows the same course as the Hamperokken Skyrace to the summit of the iconic Tromsdalstind (1238 m.a.s.). The course is less technical than the Hamperokken Skyrace, but still provides a variation of soft trail, open terrain, rocking terrain and a scenic ridge.
Bønntuva Skyrace (15 km) will also be held on Saturday, August 3rd, 2019. The race follows the first 7,5 km of both the Hamperokken og Tromsdalstind races, before turning around on the summit of Bønntuva. The course follows popular trails and provides great views of the mountains, sea, and the city of Tromsø. This race is a great introduction to mountain running and can be done as a race, or as a hike together with friends.
Sea to Summit Blåmann Vertical will take place on Thursday August 1st, 2019 at 6:00 PM. The race will again be a part of the Vertical Kilomenter World Circuit.
